With such strong competition in the online world these days, your business needs a plan to create and maintain a successful Web presence. Businesses yearn to be at the top of a search engine list, or at the very minimum, on the first page. What does it take to get there? We’ve put together our five must-haves for building a successful Web presence. Have a read and if your company could stand to make any improvements.

  1. The website itself – This might sound like a no-brainer, but the first step in building a Web presence is being online. However, we want to take it a couple steps further and say that your website also needs to be optimized for mobile usage. Studies show that more and more people are accessing websites via their smartphones or tablets. Is yours easy to read once they find you? It also helps to make sure your website is designed with a clean layout, sharp photos and keywords to help your SEO rankings. Your site design needs to reflect your brand. It also needs to be laid out in a way that makes it easy for visitors to find the information they are looking for.
  2. Social media – Listen closely. Can you hear that? It’s the sound of you engaging in conversation with your customers. And my, what a beautiful sound it is. Social media is crucial to Web presence in so many ways. It allows you to build relationships with your customers (both current and future), it gives you a vehicle to promote your products and services and, ultimately, lead people back to your website.
  3. Blogging – Before you run away scared, just hear us out. Posting regular content to your blog really does help with your Web presence. How? It is just one additional way to drive traffic to your website. It also allows you to position yourself as an expert in your industry and provide useful content to customers. You may not need to publish an article everyday or every week. But you do need to be consistent. Make a schedule and stick to it.
  1. Email campaigns/newsletters – Once again, this element opens the door to two-way conversation with your customers. When you include website links in your email campaigns and newsletters, it drives traffic to your website, thus boosting your user visits, thus boosting your Web presence. Do you see how all this is linking together?
  2. Valuable content – Notice this last point is named “valuable” content. That’s because on its own, simply creating random content isn’t good enough anymore. People want to read what’s valuable to them. What will make their lives easier? When you figure out what your customer wants to know, build all of your content (social media, blog articles and email campaigns/newsletters) around it.

That’s a lot of information, isn’t it?

It is, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start slow, track your results and see what works best for your business. Also, try to have realistic expectations. Results will not happen overnight, but if you’re persistent, your hard work will pay off in the end.
